Idealized 2006 – present
This series began as a spinoff of an earlier series, Yin/Yang. In that series, frames of film are intentionally exposed sequentially in camera to be printed contiguously as diptychs. Here the method is the same, but the idea of portraits without identity (also the starting point for Spotlight Portraits) is explored via window advertising. Faces in these printed window banners are meant to be seen, but not recognized. These anonymous faces are meant to be representations of our desires; beauty, health, increased social status, being in step with fashion. Since these faces are intended to be consciously ignored and subliminally noticed, I visually fragment them to partially break their spell.
