December (1979 -1983)
Like many people, I have always had ambivalent feelings about the holidays. As my thesis project for my BFA, I decided to explore Christmas themed landscapes and events that appear in December. I have always been and am still drawn to transformations to the landscape that mysteriously appear overnight and then disappear later. Decorations are suddenly everywhere, only to vanish at the beginning of the greyest month of the new year. That finite deadline pushed me to work with intensity and broaden the range of my usual wanderings.
This subject resonated enough with me that I continued to add to this series for the following three years. These scans are from the original master prints.
